The Blogging Game
Liberty Peak Lodge (right) Introduces Itself to the Big Boys of the Blogosphere (left)
Sixty-Six days ago, we posted our first post, The Writing on the Wall, a perspective from having dealt with crime and the breakdown of American society pretty much my whole life, seems like. It was a little depressing, but the good part is, I bought lots of Dubliner cheese that particular day I made those observations. Then I posted some of Hoh River Boy's Music, and we were a blog.
We've had some funny things happen along the way. I was interested in other people hearing about us, so I read every internet article I could find on 'How to Increase Traffic to Your Blog.' Interesting how those things are written. I imagine some thirties-something Instapundit wannabe explaining to disciples like me how to get around that-there internet. Well, they pretty much all said, 'leave Trackbacks at other sites.' So we did. We went Trollin' for Trackbacks.
The Instybes were all in agreement: the other blogs will welcome you with open arms. "Conservative bloggers are a vibrant, exciting community that welcomes new talent." I found out that was only partially true. Some are vibrant; others are paranoid and hysterical.
The first blog to notice us was the gracious and intelligent Theo, creator of Last of the Few, who I have followed since he was a mere Spark. Theo called us One of the Best of the New Blogs. That was very exciting, Theo, and much appreciated.
On a personal note: Theo has one attribute I most admire in a human: generosity, fortified by humor. He is what we used to call a "man." Aren't that many of us left. You might want to keep that in mind.
And then came a big boost from Tigerhawk, who said we were Harsh, but Funny. Like Theo, Tigerhawk will let his readers know when he's seen something useful or interesting at Liberty Peak. We love the Tiger!
Ed Driscoll Gave Us Our First Track Back Ever, Baby! What a Stud! Ed has been kind enough to Trackus, and Trackusbackus, and counter-Trackus, so that's been fun.
Mark Scott at Liberalguy is a good friend, and a good blog. Check out this Plane Pr0n:
Now don't try telling me that doesn't make you want to find a few moments privacy. I know better!
Mark just gave us a needed Boost today. Thanks, Mark!
Our most-searched-for post is Friday Night Bruni-Whip Delight. I think that speaks for itself. The biggest hit-getter from Technorati was MDD's Mo' Warnings, a genuinely talented post. And the Number 1 blog post we've had so far is DAS' Snoflake in the Promised Land. At first I grimaced at the misspelled 'snow', but for some reason that misspelling attracts more traffic. Well, we know what the reason is. 'Mericans cain't spail! DAS took advantage of that and got us some Increased Blog Traffic.
As for Trackbacks . . . .
I finally figured out that most bloggers don't Trackback. They just let Yahoo and Google and MSN search engines do the talkin'. I didn't get that. Now I do.
So I would like to apologize to Maggie's Farm, Roger Kimball and anyone else out there I might have scared half to death. You know, it was those two blogs and American Digest that inspired me to get this started. They're my favorite blogs. Maggie's Farm has granted us far more Trackbacks than any single blog, so that's nice. We appreciate it!
'Cause damnit, we're a good read.
The rest o'you, click on all their links so they'll know we're alive.
Among my favorite posts:
Escaping the Cloaca Maximus of the Modern-Day Left
What I Learned from the Hoh Rain Forest
The Strange Tale of Po' Edgar Allen

Sent a comment recommending you to John Hawkins at Right Wing News- he's got a "Website of the Day" post. I got here via a link by the incredible Tigerhawk, a blog I've read for the past few years. Don't know if patience is your long-suit, but it may require some. Unless you go Ann Coulter and write an bombastic piece that outrages leftist bloggers everywhere. It's the blogger equivalent of the long bomb in football. The problem is that you'll be labeled forever- but the tradeoff is that you'll be discovered. That's my theory anyway.

One other recommendation: get to know Prof. Donald Douglas over at Americanpowerblog. He's a young conservative with a scholarly blog. Memeorandum is fond of linking to his blog.

Kreiz! Good to see ya.
You know, I like Ann, I really do, but I also think she does more harm than good, and I say that as someone who wishes we had more robust free speech. Anyway, I think your theory is correct. Don't think I'll go for the long bomb, though we do rather push things!
It's all quite sincere, actually.
Thank you for the referral, and also the observations.
We will follow through.

Didn't figure you'd go Coulter- but it's always an alternative. Let's say it's kinda inconsistent with Character Is Destiny.

Funny Bastard, as we say 'round these parts.
